The 2018 Ford Expedition has been redesigned with more power, better performance, and smarter technology. The full sized family SUV was built for longer, bigger adventures. With the 2018 Ford Expedition, staying on the road for longer is easier than ever. With big improvements to design, capability, technology and performance, the Expedition serves as the premier SUV.

Design

The 2018 Ford Expedition is redesigned with an aluminum body, trimming 300 pounds off without sacrificing power, space, and safety. The interior amenities have also been redesigned, offering more space and capability. Inside, you’ll discover seating for up to eight with added cargo capacity.

The Expedition offers three rows of flexible seating, and second row tip-and-slide seats that fold out of the way providing easier access to the third row. Both the second and third row seats can be folded flat with a push of a button to create a flat load floor. Rear passengers are treated to their own HVAC system, with temperature and fan controls.

At full capacity, the Expedition provides an exceptional amount of cargo space totaling 104.6 cu. ft. The Expedition MAX adds an extra foot to accommodate an additional 16.9 cu. Ft. of cargo, totaling to 121.5 cu ft. The advanced cargo management system is available for additional storage space. The handy cargo shelf behind the third row can be put into place when the seat is upright, adding a two-tier storage space. The cargo protector keeps your valuable secure, and the cargo floor and shelf are designed to prevent your items from falling out when the lift gate is opened or parked on an incline.

The Platinum model meets the highest of standards for convenience, comfort and style. Comfort-enhancing features include leather-trimmed seats with heating and ventilation in the front seats to relieve fatigue during longer drivers. The center console is designed with either real wood grain accents or metal finishing, and leather wrapped heated steering wheel add to the luxurious experience.

Capability

The 2018 Ford Expedition was redesigned to do more. It’s turbocharged engine is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous six-speed. With less weight and more power, the Expedition gets better towing capability when equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package, providing a capacity of 9,300 pounds. Tow/haul mode distributes the power for ultimate traction on any road. Towing larger, heavier trailers is easier than ever with the engine delivering 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist is making its first appearance on the Expedition, which helps drivers back up a trailer like a professional. This system, found in the F-150, helps you guide a trailer in reverse using the knob on your dashboard. The vehicle steers the front wheels and the backup camera tracks the angles of the trailer, guiding it into the desired area. The integrated trailer brake controller synchronizes the vehicle with the trailer brakes and easily controls braking while towing your trailer. The vehicle also features trailer sway control with AdvanceTrac and RSC (Roll Stability Control).

The Hill Start Assist/Descent Control is there when you’re stopped on an incline, helping you keep the Expedition’s power and capability under control. This feature works with the anti-lock brakes to hold your vehicle in place. The optional 360-Degree Camera with split-view display uses cameras surrounding the vehicle to help you see all sides on a color LCD screen. This feature comes in handy when driving with a trailer and around tight spaces.

Technology

Enhanced technology features in the interior of the Expedition provide unmatched convenience. Each row gets two USB power ports, a 12-volt outlet, and a 110-volt plug is included. The available SYNC Connect allows passengers to enjoy a Wi-Fi hotspot in-vehicle. The hotspot works in a 50-foot radius around the car, keeping you connected even when you’re camping.

Optional dual-headrest mounted screens are offered to entertain passengers in the back with next generation video experience. Whether it’s playing a DVD, your favorite home cable program, or plug in gaming system, the video screens provide endless hours of entertainment.

The Expedition features smart driver-assist technologies that include BLIS (Blind Spot Information System, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, active park assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and lane-keeping assist.

Listening to your music and movies will sound even better with the upgraded Bang and Olufsen sound system. This 12-speaker B&O Premium Audio System produces an immersive listening experience for all passengers. The interior of the 2018 Expedition features active noise control, emitting sound waves that eliminate any unwanted noise in the vehicle.

Performance

The Ford Expedition is powered by 3.5L EcoBoost Engine technology, the most powerful Expedition engine to date. The updated V6 engine delivers extraordinary performance on any road. The auto start-stop technology provides a responsive and refined power, while helping you maximize on fuel. The twin air-to-air intercooled turbochargers distribute a flow of on-demand power.

For this year’s edition, the engineers departed from the solid rear axle and replaced it with the independent multilink rear suspension (IRS). The IRS lets each rear wheel handle conditions on its own, improving both quality and control. For those looking to customize their drive for any road condition, the FX4 off-road version of the Expedition includes the Terrain Management System, improving off-road capability. Drivers can select seven different modes including normal, sport, tow/haul, eco, mud/ruts, sand, and grass/gravel/snow. The FX4 off-road package also includes the Electronic Limited-Slip Differential which can help reduce wheel slip when acceleration on wet or icy surfaces.

The 2018 Expedition took a great leap forward this year when it came to amenities, technology, powertrain, design, and overall appeal. The upgraded 3.5-liter EcoBoost with 375 horsepower paired with the new 10-speed transmission brings more power and efficiency to the 2018 Ford Expedition. The design, technological amenities, power, and performance make this the best Expedition yet.
