Available in four trims, the 2018 Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover SUV with five seats. Having a maximum seating capacity for seven people, the 2018 Ford Explorer is an SUV that offers five editions. Both of these family vehicles are available with the turbocharged EcoBoost engines and naturally aspirated Ti-VCT engines. The high-tech SYNC 3 infotainment system with the FordPass mobile application is installed in the Edge and Explorer.


The 2018 Ford Edge's 2.0 L EcoBoost I-4 engine whips out 245 horsepower. Having a V6 layout, the 2.7 L EcoBoost engine generates up to 315 hp. Operating on natural aspiration, the 3.5 L Ti-VCT V6 engine peaks out at 280 hp. In the Ford Explorer, this six-cylinder engine is rated at 290 hp. If you want more aggressive capabilities, then get the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine that easily produces 365 hp. Additionally, the smaller 2.3 L EcoBoost engine yields a maximum of 280 hp. Turbocharged technology is incorporated into all of the EcoBoost systems in the Edge and Explorer. Both of these Ford models are available with a six-speed automatic transmission that utilizes the SelectShift technology. These versatile vehicles can be fitted with the Intelligent 4WD that delivers superb traction on and off the road.


The SYNC 3 infotainment system has been updated in the 2018 Ford Edge and Explorer. You can smoothly browse the LCD touch screen of this signature multimedia platform with the swipe of a finger or voice commands. GPS navigation with live traffic updates by SiriusXM is integrated into the SYNC console. You may take advantage of the SYNC Connect suite to access a variety of other digital applications for guidance and entertainment. With access to hundreds of music channels on HD Radio and SiriusXM, you'll have fun riding in the Edge or Explorer. A sound system by Sony is available with more than 10 speakers that emit awesome acoustics. Each Ford also has smartphone-friendly amenities, including Siri Eyes Free and wireless Bluetooth. Installed in the Explorer, a Wi-Fi hotspot lets all of the passengers simultaneously catch high-speed signals. This SUV has multiple USB ports, 12-volt outlets and a single 110-volt power hub.


The advanced windshield wipers in the 2018 Ford Edge and Explorer have sensors that detect rain and other forms of moisture. Designed to identify the slightest drift, the Lane-Keeping System provides directional stability. With some input from the Blind Spot Information System, you might be fortunate enough to avoid a collision with another car that's zooming into your blind zone. Both Ford models have the Cross-Traffic Alert that automatically comes on in response to reverse motion. Managed by a dozen ultrasonic sensors, the Enhanced Active Park Assist makes slight adjustments to the steering, braking and other mechanical outputs. Additionally, the Adaptive Cruise Control keeps the Edge and Explorer out of trouble at fast speeds.
