2027 FORD F-250 TOWING CAPACITY

2027 Ford F-250 Towing Capacity by Engine and Configuration

The 2027 Ford F-250 can tow up to 23,000 pounds with a properly equipped gooseneck setup, up to 22,100 pounds using a fifth-wheel connection, or 22,000 pounds with a conventional trailer. Those are different F-250 configurations—not interchangeable ratings. Start with the engine and hitch, then check the cab, axle, packages, and load carried in the truck before selecting your Super Duty.

2027 F-250 Tow Ratings: Gas vs. Diesel and Hitch Type

Select an engine and trailer connection to see the maximum rating Ford publishes for that F-250 combination. These are ceiling figures across qualifying truck builds, not a rating for every cab, axle ratio, trim or equipped vehicle.

1. SELECT YOUR ENGINE

2. SELECT TRAILER CONNECTION

7.3L V8 gas · conventional · why it matters

Ford lists 18,200 pounds as the F-250 gas-engine conventional maximum with the qualifying 4.30 axle. Compare that limit against the trailer’s actual loaded weight, not the dry weight.

7.3L V8 gas · fifth-wheel · why it matters

With the right axle and build, gas-powered F-250 fifth-wheel towing reaches 19,500 pounds. The trailer pin also transfers substantial weight to the pickup bed, so the truck’s payload and rear-axle limits matter.

7.3L V8 gas · gooseneck · why it matters

The gas F-250 can reach 19,500 pounds with a gooseneck connection. A gooseneck hitch changes where the trailer loads the truck, but it does not increase the payload rating shown on the vehicle.

6.7L HO diesel · conventional · why it matters

A qualifying high-output diesel F-250 reaches 22,000 pounds for conventional towing. Ford requires axle-upgrade package 535 and specified tire fitment for conventional trailers above 18,200 pounds.

6.7L HO diesel · fifth-wheel · why it matters

The fifth-wheel ceiling is 22,100 pounds on a qualifying 6.7L high-output diesel configuration. Check the actual loaded kingpin weight, in-bed hitch equipment, GVWR and rear GAWR before relying on the trailer rating.

6.7L HO diesel · gooseneck · why it matters

The 23,000-pound maximum belongs to a properly configured high-output diesel F-250 using a gooseneck connection. A lower-rated axle, cab or truck payload can make another diesel F-250 ineligible for that figure.

The figure shown assumes a qualifying truck build and required equipment. See the configuration chart and Ford towing notes below before using it for a purchase decision.

THE CONFIGURATION BEHIND THE NUMBER

What Changes the 2027 Ford F-250 Towing Capacity?

Engine choice sets the potential, but Ford’s towing chart assigns actual limits by cab, wheelbase, 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain, axle ratio, GCWR and equipment. Two trucks with the same engine can have different ratings.

F-250 axle upgrade code for higher conventional ratings

535

For conventional towing above 18,200 pounds, Ford requires axle-upgrade package 535 with 18-inch all-season or 20-inch all-terrain tires. Verify that equipment on the actual truck; Ford warns that towing without it can affect warranty coverage.

Conventional towing has a separate receiver limit on the F-250 Tremor: its factory receiver is rated for up to 18,200 pounds, compared with up to 22,000 pounds on other F-250 models. These are receiver ceilings; the lower applicable truck, hitch or trailer rating still controls.

PUT THE RATINGS TO WORK

Match the F-250 to the Trailer You Actually Pull

01 / BOAT OR UTILITY TRAILER

Use Loaded Trailer Weight, Not Its Empty Weight

A boat trailer leaving a Savannah-area ramp or an equipment trailer returning from a job can weigh more with fuel, water, gear or materials aboard. Add those loads before comparing your total with the conventional rating.

02 / EQUIPMENT AND JOBSITE HAULING

Leave Payload for People and Tools

Ford advises a conventional trailer tongue load of about 10% of total loaded trailer weight. A 14,000-pound trailer at that guideline puts roughly 1,400 pounds on the tow vehicle before accounting for passengers and bed cargo.

03 / FIFTH-WHEEL OR GOOSENECK

Calculate Weight Carried in the Bed

For fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers, Ford uses a 15% pin or tongue-load guideline. An 18,000-pound trailer would impose about 2,700 pounds on the truck at that percentage, plus hitch hardware and anything else in the pickup. Check rear GAWR and actual payload first.

PICK THE RIGHT CAPABILITY

Which F-250 Setup Makes Sense for Your Towing Routine?

7.3L V8 Gas: Work and Mixed Use

Start with the gas V8 if your regular loads fit its verified chart rating and you value a simpler gas-fueled work truck. Its higher available fifth-wheel and gooseneck figures still require the right axle and leave payload to check.

6.7L High-Output Diesel: Higher Limits

The diesel opens the F-250’s highest trailer ratings and offers 1,200 lb-ft of torque. It is the clearer starting point for heavier trailers or frequent loaded pulls—but fuel type alone never confirms your actual capacity.

F-350: When Bed Load Becomes the Limit

If a heavy fifth-wheel pin, passengers and equipment consume too much F-250 payload, compare an appropriately rated F-350 before choosing the trailer. A larger advertised tow rating on an F-250 cannot override its GVWR or rear-axle rating.

2027 Ford F-250 Towing Tables: Engines, Cab Sizes and Examples

Open these specification groups for engine power, maximum trailer ratings by connection, available cab and box combinations, and selected vehicle-specific examples from Ford’s 2027 F-250 SRW towing charts.

6.7L HO Power Stroke diesel 500 1,200 22,000 22,100 23,000

These figures are the highest qualifying ratings for each engine and connection in Ford’s 2027 F-250 SRW pickup guide, not universal ratings for all F-250s. Engines and horsepower/torque are from Ford’s 2027 model specifications. The diesel maximum depends on the specific truck, axle, GCWR and required equipment.

Cab, bed and wheelbase configurations

Crew Cab 6.75 ft 159.8 in. 4x2 or 4x4
Crew Cab 8 ft 176.0 in. 4x2 or 4x4

Ford’s towing charts list each cab and box size under separate 4x2 and 4x4 columns. Longer or shorter wheelbase alone does not establish a higher trailer rating; use the row for the exact engine, axle ratio, GCWR and option content.

These cab and box combinations describe the F-250 lineup as a whole, not every trim. XL and XLT offer Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab options; Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum are Crew Cab-only. Confirm trim and box length together before relying on a towing-chart row.

These are illustrative Ford-published chart cells, not a complete configuration matrix. Figures assume required equipment and Ford’s rating conditions; even a matching body and axle combination can have a lower tow rating because of trim, options and payload. For a final selection, cross-check the full Ford guide against the exact truck and trailer.

COMMON F-250 TOWING QUESTIONS

2027 Ford F-250 Towing Capacity FAQs

What is the maximum towing capacity of the 2027 Ford F-250?

Up to 23,000 pounds with a qualifying gooseneck configuration. Ford also lists F-250 maximums of 22,100 pounds for fifth-wheel towing and 22,000 pounds for conventional towing. Actual capacity depends on the exact truck and its payload.

How much can the 2027 F-250 tow with the 7.3L gas V8?

The 7.3-liter gas F-250 reaches a maximum of 18,200 pounds conventionally and 19,500 pounds with either a fifth-wheel or gooseneck connection when properly configured.

How much can the 2027 F-250 tow with the 6.7L high-output diesel?

The high-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel reaches up to 22,000 pounds conventionally, 22,100 pounds with a fifth-wheel hitch and 23,000 pounds with a gooseneck hitch in qualifying F-250 configurations.

Why are conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck tow ratings different?

They use different trailer connection points and impose different loads on the truck. Ford publishes separate ratings for each hitch type. Conventional tongue weight and in-bed fifth-wheel or gooseneck pin weight must fit the truck’s payload and axle ratings.

Does 4x4 or cab size change a 2027 F-250 towing rating?

Yes. Ford’s towing guide distinguishes 4x2 from 4x4 configurations and lists separate Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab wheelbases and box sizes. The same engine can have different ratings across those configurations.

When does the F-250 need the High-Capacity Axle Upgrade Package?

Ford requires the F-250 High-Capacity Axle Upgrade Package (535) and specified 18-inch all-season or 20-inch all-terrain tires for conventional towing above 18,200 pounds. Confirm the exact equipment before towing at a higher rating.

Can every 2027 F-250 tow a 23,000-pound trailer?

No. The 23,000-pound figure is the F-250 gooseneck maximum for a specific properly equipped high-output diesel configuration. Trailer pin or tongue weight, passengers, cargo, GVWR, rear GAWR and the truck’s own chart rating can impose a lower limit.

Where can I confirm an F-250 towing configuration in Savannah?

Our Savannah showroom is at 9505 Abercorn Street. Bring the trailer’s loaded weight and hitch type; we can help review available F-250 equipment and Ford’s rating guide for the truck you are considering.

*The F-250 towing figures shown are Ford’s U.S.-market 2027 F-250 single-rear-wheel pickup ratings for properly equipped vehicles. Figures reflect Ford’s published maximum loaded trailer weights and stated assumptions; they are not VIN-specific. Trim, drivetrain, axle ratio, GCWR, options, vehicle weight, hitch type, passengers and cargo can reduce available capacity.
*For conventional F-250 towing above 18,200 pounds, Ford requires the High-Capacity Axle Upgrade Package (535) with 18-inch all-season or 20-inch all-terrain tires. Ford warns that towing without required equipment can affect the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. F-250 hitch receiver capacity is up to 22,000 pounds; the Tremor receiver maximum is 18,200 pounds. The receiver rating does not supersede the truck’s lower applicable trailer rating.
*Ford’s towing guide recommends a conventional trailer tongue load of 10% and a fifth-wheel/gooseneck pin or tongue load of 15% of total loaded trailer weight. Account for hitch hardware, passengers, cargo, GVWR, rear GAWR, and frontal-area limits. Follow the owner’s manual and check the actual truck’s Safety Compliance Certification Label, Ford guide and trailer data before towing. Inventory and configuration availability change.
